Sunday, Vons, 8:30AM, mellow Rock

FF'ers,

I'm planning on tackling the heights of Rockstore for the first time since, well, you know. If anyone is up or down for an easy ride or would like to finish up a more prodigious effort with an easy spin up Rockstore down Decker (I'll buy the coffee!) let me know. I'll be leaving Vons at 8:30 and would be glad of the company.

FA$T FRIDAY$ DI$COUNT

There is a group discount available for those interested. Standard price for the event is $20. If 10 FF riders sign up then the price is $15/rider; and if 15 or more FF riders sign up it's only $10 per!!! The catch? You have to pre-register as a group, which simply means giving me a list of who will be riding and the money (cash or check payable to Tren Morris). You can sign your waiver on the day of the event when you pick up your number.

If there is enough interest to constitute a 'group', I can collect money on Friday morning. Also, the order the names are listed is the order the riders will be going off (30-second intervals). Race starts at 9:00 am and is the first Sunday of the month (unless that's a holiday weekend, then it's the second Sunday).

PJ - I still have your medal from last month's race!!

Fast Friday Report - September 22nd

PJ Conquers All in Tough Week #4 Route scoring an impressive 27 points. When the Jersey was on the line, PJ actually cranked up Rock Store in a sub-16 minute time to score some needed points (if PJ starts to climb...we're all dead!).

The climbers (favorites for the day) worshiped PJ at his feet in his Greek God pose (this picture is posted in Westlake Cyclery).

I'm throwing down the guantlet right now to Mark, Gary, Dan, etc. to start coming back and try to dethrone this mammoth of a man.

Also shown is a picture of me with the Jersey on. This should be an inspiration to all that you always have a chance on FF.

Some new rule changes are being discussed for October....please comment:

1. You cannot win FF if you come in last on either Rock Climb or Power Climb. This will keep riders (like PJ, Tod, etc.) from dogging it up the climbs to perserve for Sprint #3 and the Finish. This always gives incentive to some of the other slower hill climbers to bury a potential points leader on the climbs and take away their win for the day.

2. Change the scoring on the Finish to 5-4-3-2-1 (this totally screws me but I'm all for more FF'ers feeling like they have a better chance to win the day.

24 Hours of Moab

RIDER NEEDED!!!! Due to the unfortunate withdrawal by Chuck from the Dead Cow Locals 24 Hour Endurance Team, we need another rider. We will travel to Moab on Oct. 12th and return late the evening of Oct. 15th. This is once in a lifetime experience with lots of "bennies" and comforts. Join Tod, Greg and Pete in this event and your life will be changed forever.

The pic is the Dead Cow Locals mascot..he welcomes the riders into camp after their lap everytime by singing and dancing a jig.

Solvang - November

Anyone doing this one?

Fast Friday - September 22nd

Come Ride! Even you FF anti-bloggers. Tod will try to defend the Polka Dots against all odds. The course does not favor PJ tomorrow: Regroups After Sprint #1. After Sprint #2. After Sprint #3. This means that the hill climbers can pick up easy points on the power climb and Sprint #3 with their big Rock Store leads.

7 Am...be there

Tuesday Morning Ride

Even with all the tragedy facing us I see no reason not to do a TOW early morning ride. I am starting TOW at 6:45 as I need to be home by 8:45. Please join me if you can. My neighbor Eddie Chambers will be there starting ahead as not to hold us up. Of course longer rides are encouraged.

Friends of Fast Friday
Fellow Fast Friday Folks,

I am examining the circumstances of my crash on the FF of August 18th. If you were present on that ride, please contact me; your help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Jack

Thank You FF!!

Dear All,
This past Sunday (9-17) Leah Mazziliano (Older Daughter) and I participated in the Malibu Tri. "We Finished the race" Hurrrrrrray....And I have to say THANK YOU to all of the Fast Friday riders. A little over a year ago , I was nearly 40LB's heaver and a little depressed on how my eye surgery turned out.... So when I decided to get my shit together and get on my bike.. I used FF as my weekly goal. I also have to mention Omar Spina, (pictured on the left on pic 2) He also helped me take my game to another level. And oh by the way Omar also did the tri and KICKED ASS. FF was represented....A Special mention goes out to Glen Grossman and his wife who got up at the crack of dawn to support me and come down to the Tri and take pictures.... Thanks Glenie & Mrs Grossman

Thank You ALL

See you on Friday.........

Last weekend in the desert

Here is a picture of Chris and me last weekend after the Mt. Graham Hill climb. If you didn't hear, all of those hard Fast Friday rides were great prep because I got 1st in the cat 5's and 6th overall, setting a new cat 5 course record. Unfortunately, all those people from Arizona are a bunch of sore losers and wouldn't let me take home their polka dot jersey when they heard I was from California. I stole it long enough to get a quick picture though.

They didn't give me a medal for winning, nor did they recognize that I even won or set a new record. I feel that since I paid my entry fee just like everyone else, and am a licensed rider, I should have been eligible and recognized for my accomplishments. I didn't read anywhere that stated otherwise. I am going to write a letter to the USCF and the AZCF, but I was wondering if anybody had any advice as to what I should include in the letter and who I should send it to specifically. Has anyone ever delt with a matter like this before? Should I ask for my entry fee back if they are not going to do anything else (Like give me the dots!!)?

I would love any comments.

Hope to see everyone at Fast Friday again this week.

Anthony

p.s. It took me about 4 or 5 tries to get the FF dots and only one to get the AZ dots, so I think that says something about the quality of FF. Let the legend continue!!

Dave Zabriskie

Some of you may have already been to his site. But for those who haven't, it's ... um ... entertaining at the very least. He hasn't posted a new podcast since august, but enjoy the archives.

polka dot jersey sighting (sort of)

Okay, it wasn't the jersey itself but he who is currently in possession of said jersey.

PJ dominated his category at the Piru Time Trial today. With a time of 30:41 he was 23 seconds ahead of the next guy and 2:17 ahead of the last in his category. Good job, PJ (I'll bring your medal on Friday)!

Sorry the photo of him racing to the finish line is a little out of focus - he was flying!!!

Fast Friday - September 8th

This week's regroups are: Sprint #1, Sprint #2, & Rock Store. Race to the Finish after regrouping for Power Climb.

PJ has changed his flight schedules at great personal expense to defend the Polka Dots. Doug's in Pink! Chuck is supposed to bring the Polka Dot Jersey to PJ for Friday.

Tod and Greg will be in Mammoth riding and will be out.

Can PJ be beaten?

How much is that Jersey in the WINDOW ?

Glory for sale ? You betcha. At NEWBURY PARK Bike Shop. But only available as a rental. Now you rest easy again because I GOT IT BACK.

Please comment. I will contact the appropriate person for rights once it is decided.

Fast Friday Report - September 1st

PJ Wins Again!

This one was tight down to the

Finish. At the Mulholland Sprint, PJ had 20 pts, Doug 20 pts and Tod 18 pts. The Finish would determine the winner. Tod, smelling his first Polka Dot stage (actually, the Polka Dot jersey wasn't even there --- kill Anthony!!!!), pedaled his little heart out almost to the breaking point..prose was building in his gold digging mind as he pictured standing on the gate of his EXT with arms in the air....just to be completely smashed by PJ at the Finish in a devasting burst of power. I have scheduled a therapy session to deal with this.

Rick, Tod, Doug and PJ were almost taken out by a mad chick in a Beamer on the left hand turn setting up for the long up hill sprint on Mullholland. She was over the middle stripe and punching it hard through the corner.

With Rick DQ'd for a post-Hillcrest start, he was a primo domestique setting up three extremely close sprints between Tod, Doug and PJ. John D was also out riding strong.

FF welcomed back Gonzo after a long hiatus. Gonzo told his old boss to shove it and has dramatically improved upon his riding schedule with a new job. He came out and scored some points (albeit there were only five qualified riders to score points and he was one of them) and was all grins at the end.

Pete was a no show after threatening to show up...you tease us so! Are you yella?
